10 Signs That You’re Obsessed With Your Dog
Dogs have been becoming more and more like family instead of pets. Even statistically, the amount of money that people spend on pet care (grooming, toys, treats, food, veterinary care, etc) has skyrocketed over the last 10- 15 years. It used to be the norm to have your dog live in their dog house in the backyard. Now, I can’t even imagine taking Riley on a walk if the pavement is too hot outside.
Some of us, however, are a little extra and aren’t embarrassed to say it. Here are my top 10 signs that you are absolutely obsessed with your dog.
1. You take an absurd amount of pictures.
Let’s be honest- you have more pictures of your dog on your phone than of anything else, maybe even their own album. Your background picture is probably of them too, and you’re not ashamed. They are just so cute and photogenic, you can’t help but capture the moment. Sometimes you’re pretty certain they’re just as human as you are. I think Riley has gotten used to being photographed so often that sometimes I swear she’s posing for the photo.
2. Birthdays are a BIG deal
“Happy Barkday to MEEE!”
I once read that a dog’s only flaw is how short they live and that couldn’t be more accurate. Your dog isn’t going to have nearly as many birthdays as a human would, so you make sure to make each one a worthy celebration. Your dog is more than a pet, they are a part of your family. Christmas and other holidays just aren’t the same unless your pup is a part of the fun too.
3. Picture paw-fect
Family portraits are not complete if your pet is not in it.
4. This shirt is 25% cotton, 25% polyester and 50% dog hair.
You can’t remember the last time you weren’t covered in dog hair. You’ve gotten used to it and lint rollers have become a common household item. It’s funny to think back how many things would have grossed me out before I had a dog, and now it’s not a big deal. Doggy eye boogers? Meh, no problem.
5. You spend more effort on their Halloween costume than your own.
6. Your dog has a social media account.
You already have a massive amount of pictures, why not share the great ones with the world? I’ll be the first to admit that I spend more time on Riley’s Instagram account than on my own.
7. The people at PetsMart know you and your dog by name.
You know you go to the pet store far too often when the employees know you by name. Even if I’m stocked up on dog food, PetsMart has just become a go-to spot to take Riley. Sometimes it’s to stock up on some new treats, but honestly I take her because she absolutely LOVES going. She loves to sniff up and down the aisles.
8. “I’m going to work, I’ll see you tonight.”
You know you’ve said it. When you leave the house you make sure that the TV or radio is on. And it’s on something you think they’d enjoy.
9. You don’t trust just anyone with them.
The list of people you trust to babysit your dog is down to maybe two people. And even then, you need constant pictures and updates of how they’re doing.
10. You just can’t imagine life without them.
The Winnie the Pooh quote always hits me in the feels and reminds me of Riley. “Sometimes the smallest things can take up the most room in your heart.” Your dog is your best companion- always along for the ride wherever you’re going. Riley has saved my life in more ways than one. Yes, I’m absolutely obsessed with my dog. Who’s with me??
