Top 5 Dog Friendly Wineries In Northern Virginia

There are few things that I find to be more relaxing than being outside on a warm, sunny day with a glass of wine. That’s why I absolutely love checking out all the local wineries. Wineries have been becoming more and more popular because they’re the perfect “day-cation.” It’s the perfect chance to escape from the hectic chaos of everyday life. The only thing that could be better would be to enjoy it with your dog instead of having to leave them at home…

Well guess what? You can! There are a number of dog-friendly wineries right here in Northern Virginia. Finally, a chance to raise a toast to our four-legged friends and have an actual “yappy hour!”

In order to plan the perfect day, don’t forget to pack the following supplies on your adventure:

  • water bowls,
  • leashes,
  • doggy poop bags,
  • towels,
  • snacks (for you and your pup)

Tip: Enjoy a nice walk on the beautiful trails nearby before you get to the winery. A dog with tons of energy is often times more mischievous and less behaved than one who has exercised a fair bit prior.

Here are our top five dog-friendly wineries. Enjoy!

  • Three Fox Vineyards

From adventures on the trails to relaxing on a hammock- there’s something for everyone. This is one of the few wineries in the state of Virginia that allow dogs to roam free. Riley absolutely LOVES to come here and play because there’s a creek that runs alongside the meadow. There are hammocks and picnic tables down by the meadow, a vine-side tasting bar, and 50 acres to explore and enjoy.

Before you leave, don’t forget to sign your dog up for a chance to be “Dog of the Month!” Each month, a special dog is nominated as “Dog of the Month” and gets a ton of great perks such as:

  • bandana
  • reserved table
  • their portrait on the website
  • their portrait inside the tasting room
  • 10% discount
  • bragging rights, obviously!

Aspen Dale has a rustic yet elegant ambiance after a 200-year old barn was converted into a winery.  Leashed dogs are welcome inside the tasting room and outside on the property. With about 50-acres to explore, there’s plenty to see. The winery is picture perfect with rock walls, a koi pond, gazebo, rolling hills and breathtaking views. We played fetch and had a picnic in the fields, walked around and saw all the farm animals. They have 3 miniature horses,  2 thoroughbreds, 1 quarter horse, and plenty of chickens and goats. Riley was so mesmerized by the horses- it was her first time seeing one!

The tasting was spot on and the wine educators are so attentive in guiding you through each wine and food pairing. For $10 you can enjoy 6 wines with their food pairings plus a sangria!
